Makroudh
TUNISIAN TRADITIONAL SWEETS
RECIPE
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, vanilla sugar, baking powder, sesame seeds, and salt altogether.
- Add the beaten egg.
- Add the melted butter and mix well.
- Add the warm water progressively and mix until the dough is well combined.
- Put the dough in a freezer/food bag and allow to rest for at least 1 hour.
- Prepare the filling by combining the ground dates with cinnamon and olive oil.
- Form ropes out of the dates dough.
- Spread the dough on a clean surface with a pastry roll.
- Place the date rope on the dough and roll over twice.
- Remove the remaining dough.
- Press gently the filled part and cut in small diamonds.
- Place the makroudh pieces on a parchment paper and repeat the steps with the remaining dough.
- Bake the makroudh for 20 minutes in a preheated oven at 175°C.
